The first thing that strikes you about Montage Gallery is the building in which it is housed. Set amongst big old trees in the leafy suburb of Walmer in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, it was conceptualised, architect-designed and built as an art gallery. From the outset, therefore, the aim was to create a building and interior space in which a pleasant, warm atmosphere will enhance the practical requirements of a gallery. A steeply pitched roof with exposed inside beams, a round stained glass window in the front façade, and inviting balustraded verandas are just some of the features contributing to this. Once inside, the smell of freshly ground coffee from the espresso bar makes one want to slow down the rat race a bit to allow a more relaxed look at the art on display.

The gallery prides itself in keeping a wide variety of art and styles, ranging from pottery and sculptures to paintings, etchings and illustrations. In addition, there is a range of good quality prints in stock and a number of catalogues with hundreds more to order.

Complimentary to the art and prints available at the gallery, Montage offers a customised framing service, handling anything from certificates to rugby jerseys! The importance of conservation framing is highly regarded and gladly explained here. The fact that the consultants at the gallery are experienced artists enables them to advise clients expertly in buying art and selecting frames.

Montage is open Mondays to Fridays from 8h30 to 17h00, and Saturdays from 8h30 to 13h00.
