Red Location Art Gallery
A new art gallery designed to promote art in the township in the ‘culturally alive’ New Brighton is to open early in the new year.
The art gallery will be one of five buildings in what will be Africa’s largest cultural centre once completed. The first of these is the Red Location Museum, which is complete and operational. Other structures will house a digital library and library archive, a performing arts centre and a school of the arts.
Rory Riordan, who is part of a team overseeing the building of the gallery, says the philosophy behind it, is ‘to use the engine of culture to renew a troubled area’, as well as to create a vibrant art educational environment in New Brighton.
